This solution has the capability of achieving an NWI score of 3.0, by employing 2 forms of waterproofing (Type A – Barrier Protection) and (Type B – Integral Protection) to prevent ground water passing through to the structural elements of the building.

Recommendations & Standards

Although Type A & B provides two forms of waterproofing, the risk of water ingress due to defects and or workmanship is reasonably high and so, as advised within BS 8102:2009, consideration should be given to maintainability and repairability.

Contingency planning for dealing with any localised defects or system failures should be included as part of the overall water-resisting design for the structure. The issue of repairability should also be taken into account and the feasibility of remedial measures assessed. Consider re-usable injection waterbar systems and internal Type C waterproofing.

Type B – Prevent Water Ingress at Construction Joints and Service Penetrations 

Install Newton 315 Polymer-Waterbar to all construction joints to limit water ingress through joints in the structure. Newton 315 Polymer-Waterbar is a high-grade, hydrophilic waterbar with high elasticity and high tensile strength.

Type A – Provide a Complete and Continuous Waterproof Barrier to the External Surface

Pre-apply Newton 403 HydroBond ready for the placement of the concrete raft. Newton 403 HydroBond is a high-performance composite sheet membrane featuring a locking fleece and a polymer hydrophilic coating.
