Newton provide waterproofing systems for cellars and basements, with nationwide registered contractors. Our products and systems are British Standard compliant, and we can provide guaranteed design and installation to protect against rising damp. Whether you are an architect, developer or homeowner, we can help.

Large Basement Extension

Converting a basement, or extending a property below ground, can be a great way of increasing the living space and adding financial value to the property. It is very important to choose the right products and contractor to undertake the basement waterproofing work however, as well as obtaining a secure guarantee and maintenance agreement from the contractor for the waterproofing system.

How Does Basement Waterproofing Work?

We always follow the recommendations of the British Standard 8102:2022 for waterproofing below ground structures. This defines three forms of waterproofing:

  • Type A (barrier protection) – tanking membranes applied to the inside or outside of the structure
  • Type B (integral protection) – waterbars within construction joints
  • Type C (drained protection) – a cavity drain system compromising waterproof membranes, pumps and drainage

A combination waterproofing system is recommended where the consequence of failure or the assessed risk of water ingress from groundwater is deemed too high – and we would usually recommend that one of the forms of waterproofing is a Type C or Cavity Drain System (CDM). Because they are maintainable, CDM Systems are acknowledged as the safest form waterproofing a new or existing basement structure. The choice of the other system is largely dictated by the type of structure. We can help to ascertain what’s right for your project.

Don’t Risk Failure

We are often called in to help where the wrong basement waterproofing products have been installed or have been installed incorrectly. We can always help to put this right – but significant delays to the project may have already occurred. Let us help you get it right the first time.

Who Installs the Basement Waterproofing System?

We would always recommend one of our Newton Specialist Basement Contractors (NSBC) undertake the work. They are specialists in waterproofing and will guarantee both the design and installation of the waterproofing.

What Next?

Do contact one of our technical team for any further advice on your project.
