Newton Waterproofing Systems: Modern Slavery Statement
Newton Waterproofing Systems, a trading name of John Newton & Company Limited, is committed to preventing modern slavery and human trafficking within our business and supply chains.
Our annual turnover is below £36 million and we are therefore not currently required to publish a slavery and human trafficking statement under Section 54 of the Modern Slavery Act 2015. Nevertheless, we have chosen to publish this statement voluntarily as part of our commitment to responsible and ethical business practices.
Our Business
Newton Waterproofing Systems operates in the United Kingdom as a supplier and distributor of structural waterproofing, damp proofing and associated construction products. We work with manufacturers and suppliers in the UK and internationally to provide products to the UK construction industry across commercial, residential, infrastructure, new-build and refurbishment projects.
Our Supply Chain
Our supply chain primarily comprises manufacturers and suppliers of construction products and associated goods and services located in the UK, Europe and other international markets.
We recognise that the risk of modern slavery and labour exploitation can vary according to geography, industry, product and individual supplier. We therefore take a proportionate, risk-based approach to monitoring our supply chain and expect suppliers to operate responsibly and comply with applicable employment, health and safety and human rights legislation.
Our Policies and Controls
Newton maintains policies and management systems supporting ethical and responsible business practices. These include:
- ISO 9001 Quality Management System;
- ISO 14001 Environmental Management System;
- ISO 45001 Occupational Health & Safety Management System;
- Countering Corruption & Bribery Policy;
- Health and Safety Policy; and
- Employee Code of Conduct

Supplier performance and suitability are reviewed as part of our supplier management processes. Where appropriate, we seek information from suppliers concerning their approach to modern slavery and human trafficking and their compliance with relevant standards and legislation.
Due Diligence and Reporting
We seek to identify and manage modern slavery risks proportionately within our operations and supply chain. Where reasonably practicable, we consider the policies and practices of organisations within our supply chain and encourage suppliers to maintain appropriate measures to prevent slavery and human trafficking.
Employees are encouraged to raise any concerns regarding unethical conduct, modern slavery or human trafficking identified within our business or supply chain. Any concerns raised will be appropriately investigated and addressed.
Responsibility for oversight of matters relating to modern slavery and human trafficking is assigned to the Finance Director.
Newton will periodically review its approach to modern slavery and supply-chain due diligence and will update its controls where appropriate.
