Summary

Waterproofing the Park Avenue, Sunbury-on-Thames development of 193 apartments and houses with Newton 403 HydroBond. HydroBond is a fully applied external membrane that provides a Type A (barrier) waterproofing solution.

Waterproofing Crest Nicholson Development

Crest Nicholson were responsible for the development of Park Avenue in Sunbury-on-Thames, a combination of 193 apartments and spacious executive homes. The site was the old training grounds for London Irish Rugby club.

The Solution

They applied Newton 403 HydroBond to the development to create a complete waterproof envelope. This provides a Type A (barrier) waterproofing solution suitable for Grades 1, 2 and 3 under BS8102:2009. Additionally, HydroBond is a very high-performance composite sheet membrane. It features a locking fleece to one side and a polymer hydrophilic coating to the other.

Newton HydroBond 403

Newton HydroBond 403 is a high-performance, self-healing, composite sheet membrane, with exceptional waterproofing capabilities. When installers fit it above the raft support or to wall formwork, the newly placed concrete encapsulates the locking fleece and fully engages it to prevent water from tracking.

If the waterproof LDPE layer is punctured, the exposed hydrophilic coating expands and prevents water ingress, effectively sealing small holes that workers may accidentally create while fixing the reinforcing steel or placing and compacting the concrete.

  • Self-Healing Technology: HydroBond 403 features a self-healing composite sheet membrane that automatically seals small punctures, ensuring continuous waterproofing protection.
  • Full Engagement with Concrete: The locking fleece becomes fully integrated into newly placed concrete, preventing water from tracking and ensuring long-term durability.

The Result – Waterproofing Crest Nicholson Development

Evidently, HydroBond is suitable for use around below-ground reinforced concrete structures. The self-healing and fully bonded membrane protects the slab from water ingress via shrinkage cracks.

You can place heavy objects on top of HydroBond. If the membrane suffers damage or punctures of 10 mm or more, you can repair it by applying a patch and securing it with HydroBond tape.
Lastly, once installers lay HydroBond onto the oversite substrate, they can place reinforcement steel on top, ready for concrete.
