In partnership with our Newton Specialist Basement Contractor (NSBC) network, Newton is proud to introduce our NSBC Membrane Recycling Service to the Structural Waterproofing Industry.

The Service is a tailor-made “back to base” membrane recycling facility, whereby Newton and their NSBCs actively recycle off-cuts of virgin and recycled HDPE from commercial and domestic construction sites throughout the UK.

Newton and their NSBCs actively recycle off-cuts of HDPE from commercial and domestic construction sites across the UK through a tailor-made ‘back to base’ membrane recycling facility.

Membrane Recyling Service

Driven by Newton’s commitment to reducing environmental impact, they collected 3.255 tonnes of membrane in 2017.

The Newton Membrane Recycling Service

Launched in 2017, Newton Membrane Recycling Service is the UK’s first waterproofing recycling scheme. Available through Newton’s Network of Specialist Contractors (NSBCs), the service collects the waste membrane and processes it at Newton’s headquarters. A third party then recycles it and manufactures new construction products, achieving a fully ‘closed-loop’ recycling process.

In order to provide this service, Newton has dedicated drivers. They pick up HDPE from the site or offices for recycling back at our head office in Tonbridge, Kent. We collect recycled off-cuts alongside deliveries of new construction membranes, saving on dedicated pick-ups and reducing carbon emissions.

quotation marksWe are working with RECOUP to discover ways to recycle post-industrial plastics within the construction industry. RECOUP CEO Stuart Foster comments:
“We are delighted that Newton Waterproofing Systems are investing in membership of RECOUP and have taken the lead in looking at ways post-industrial plastics can be recycled by the construction industry. Utilising the knowledge and membership links that RECOUP have to increase and improve plastics recycling through their Membrane Recycling Service shows real commitment and foresight from the company’s leadership”

Cups of tea

Indeed, by recycling this quantity of HDPE plastic, Newton has avoided the release of 3.74 tonnes of CO2 equivalent.

To create the same quantity of emissions by burning fuel would require 1,702 litres of petrol

Lastly, this energy would be enough to make 519,690 cups of tea!!
