Here at Newton, we are expanding our award-winning Recycling Service in 2021 to include the plastic tubs and metal containers from our products, reinforcing our long-standing dedication to sustainability.
These tubs and containers are used for all of our waterproofing products that are stored and distributed in liquid form, including the entire TRADECC range of specialist injection resins and waterproof coatings.
To make this expansion possible, Newton has partnered with Williams Environmental, leaders in hazardous waste management who own and operate the largest independent Hazardous Waste Transfer Station in the South East.
Dean Greene, Sales Manager at Williams Environmental, said of our new partnership:
“Williams Environmental are excited to announce that we have partnered with Newton Waterproofing Systems in their innovative, first-of-a-kind recycling scheme. Williams Environmental have worked within the construction industry for over 20 years, specialising in the management and disposal of COSSH and Hazardous Waste, and over this period we have seen the industry change and adapt to new legislation and Net Zero Landfill goals.
Contaminated packaging has, in the last few years, been reclassified and deemed as a hazardous material if the previous contents had dangerous properties, and as a result, the way that the materials are dealt with has changed dramatically. Whilst we have been promoting our own recycling methods for metal and plastic contaminated packaging and advising clients on the best methods of segregation and how to correctly store and dispose of their waste in accordance with EA guidelines, this change hasn’t happened overnight and there is still a lot of work to do.
The exciting thing about partnering with Newton is the fact they have led the field with their packaging recycling scheme, whereby their clients can return their used containers free of charge, and the materials are then stored for bulk collections by our vehicles and taken to our transfer stations for onward recycling and recovery.
As sustainability takes the lead within the construction industry, this new approach, spearheaded by Newton, shows their commitment to changing old habits and allows us to open up to a completely new industry in the waterproofing sector. With recycling and recovery rates above 95%, more and more waste will be diverted from landfills and incinerators and put back into the system. At a time when plastic waste is a global issue, to be involved in this new approach is refreshing and exciting.
Williams Environmental is looking forward to working with Newton and their clients in the coming months and being able to demonstrate the real, direct impact this scheme will achieve on increasing recycling figures within the waterproofing industry as a whole.”
