Protectahome’s specialist operatives installed a neat and fully maintainable Newton CDM System

Rural Holmfirth in West Yorkshire was the site of this luxury, 12-property housing development. Built into an embankment on a sloping site, and with each unit expected to retail at £400,000, the developers needed to waterproof them to a ‘Grade 3’ habitable standard.
The design team needed a structural waterproofing specialist. This was because the lower ground floor of each new unit required earth-retaining walls and a habitable internal space.
Evidently, the property developer approached Newton Specialist Contractor Protectahome to fulfil this role and provide a guaranteed, cost-effective scheme that complied with BS 8102:2009 and third-party warranty requirements.
Protectahome’s CSSW-qualified surveyor worked alongside the project designers and engineers to design a combined waterproofing solution. Indeed, this brought together Type A (barrier) and Type C (drained) protection to create a Grade 3 (habitable) internal environment.
The Type A system was achieved with the Newton HydroBond System, utilising a Newton 109-LM seamless rubber waterproofing membrane externally to the blockwork structure, before protecting the membrane and the structure with Newton 410 GeoDrain drainage membrane, protection boards, free-draining backfill and a serviceable land drain.
With the structure complete, installers achieved the internal waterproofing using the Newton CDM System. They used a Newton 508 cavity drain membrane with Basedrain perimeter drainage to direct water to a safe passive drainage point, aided by the sloping site.
The Newton CDM System
The Newton CDM System is a comprehensive Type C waterproofing system. It will usually be suggested as one of the forms of waterproofing to provide superior levels of protection against water ingress and where a completely dry internal environment is required.
This maintainable basement waterproofing solution is ideal for both new-build basements and refurbishment projects. The system comprises of BBA-approved cavity drain membranes, drainage conduits, sump chambers, pumps, and associated control and telemetry systems.
