Summary
The extensive vaulted basement areas of Pineapple Dance Studios in Langley Street were suffering from damp problems which rendered the below ground areas completely unusable.
The Project
Newton Specialist Basement Contractor Liquatek were commissioned to design, install and guarantee the damp proofing of the vaults to create usable storage space.
The Solution
Liquatek decided that a guaranteed dry finish would require a combined approach to the waterproofing, with Type A cementitious membrane applied in some areas and Type C Cavity Drain Membrane used throughout, part of the Newton CDM System these are the highest quality BBA certified membranes from the Newton System 500.
The majority of the damp treatment works involved fixing the Newton Newton 508 meshed membrane throughout the internal space. Once the membrane was installed creating a robust wall finish, Tarmac Whitewall was applied in 2 x 12mm coats to give a ‘low profile’ dry environment ready for decoration with breathable finish.
The Result
In the areas of the basement where head height is as a premium, the application of the membrane system created an isolation barrier to inherent salts and dampness and only took 30mm of available space.
The Dance Studios are now able to use the entire underground space for the safe and secure storage of equipment, freeing up premium studio space upstairs.
As well as being fully compliant with BS 8102:2009, the client was provided with further peace of mind thanks to Liquatek’s 10-year guarantee, and Newton’s 30-year product warranty.
