A New Build Basement where Specialist Contractor CCL successfully installed a comprehensive internal and external structural waterproofing solution.
The team used various Newton HydroBond and CDM System components to prevent groundwater from entering. It included the use of the NewSeal 408 DeckDrain in conjunction with the Newton 410 GeoDrain drainage layer.
Adam Architecture and main contractor RW Armstrong awarded Newton Specialist Waterproofing Contractor Cast Contracting Ltd (CCL) this prestigious project to supply and install comprehensive internal and external structural waterproofing solutions, preventing groundwater from entering the concrete basement of a substantial new-build property in Pulborough, West Sussex.
CCL specified and installed the self-healing, hydrophilic Newton 403 HydroBond membrane beneath the basement slab before applying the seamless rubber waterproofing membrane Newton 109-LM to the external surface of the walls as well as the terrace area above, linking to the Newton 403 HydroBond membrane and terminating at DPC level.
The contractor installed the Newton 410 GeoDrain drainage layer directly in front of the Newton 109-LM. This protects the membrane during backfilling and to channel water away from the structure toward the installed land drain.
The contractor installed Newton 503 and 508 cavity drain membranes on the internal walls and floor, respectively, along with 50 mm closed-cell insulation board Newton Fibran XPS 500-C. CCL completed the cavity drainage system by fitting perimeter Basedrain channels and a suitably located Titan Pro-White sump chamber. This ensures that any ingressing water was quickly collected and discharged.
The contractor installed Newton 408 DeckDrain and 409 Root Barrier above the terrace to provide full protection. Finally, they completed the final landscaping works.
By combining both Type A and Type C waterproofing, CCL installed combination waterproofing that conforms with the recommendations of BS 8102:2009 in order to effectively protect this luxury basement.
