With the concrete basement in place, the Type C Newton CDM System was installed internally.
Newton’s industry-leading control and backup products for Type C systems were also utilised.
With the CDM System in place in the basement, the internal finishes could be safely installed in front of it.
Following the demolition of an existing property, this large residential site in Glasgow was almost completely excavated in order to construct Burnside Villa, a significant new-build property in an affluent area. Utilising the Newton CDM System, and various HydroBond and HydroTank products, as well as Specialist Contractor Wise, the installation is BS 8102:2009 compliant.
The team designed the completely new four-storey villa with a 240 m² basement area. Given the high-value nature of the project, the team brought in Newton Specialist Basement Contractor Wise Basement Systems at an early stage to develop a cost-efficient, achievable, and effective waterproofing solution.
The client planned to use the new basement as a habitable space, which included a below-ground cinema. Therefore, Wise proposed installing all three ‘Types’ of waterproofing to provide complete protection.
Externally, the team achieved a BS 8102:2009-compliant Type A system. The team created this system by fixing Newton’s flagship self-healing 403 HydroBond membrane to the formwork before pouring the concrete. They completed the Type A waterproofing by applying the 109-LM liquid rubber membrane and installing 410 GeoDrain as a protective drainage layer.
To deliver Type B waterproofing, the team installed the BDA-approved, hydrophilic 315 Polymer-Waterbar within the construction joints.
The team completed the waterproofing solution with the most failsafe approach: an internal Type C Newton CDM System. They applied Newton’s 508 membrane to the walls and the 520 membrane to the floors. Fibran XPS 500-C was used as an insulation spacer beneath the floor membrane. The team installed Basedrain drainage channels to direct captured water to a Titan-Pro sump chamber housing two CP400 clean water pumps. The entire system was backed with a Victron MultiPlus inverter, Pump Controller control panel, and dialer.
Finally, the range of systems installed highlights the importance of waterproofing at this luxury property. This gives the client comprehensive protection that is also BS 8102:2009 compliant.
“Wise Basement Systems carried out the waterproofing to this new build concrete basement and were extremely professional in their work. I would recommend Wise and the Newton Waterproofing products they used to any company or client.” Richard Lyons, Director – AR Builders
